Resumen:
Parkinson´s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterizedby the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons, resulting in a rangeof motor and non-motor symptoms. Although motor deficits are themain criteria for diagnosis, there is growing evidence that non-motorsymptoms may also play an important role in the disease progression. In this study, we aimed to investigate the onset and progressionof cognitive and anxiety-like behavior deficits in a rat model ofneurotoxicity induced by 6-OHDA infusion into the dorsolateralstriatum. We assessed the behavioral changes in male Wistar ratsafter 1, 2 and 3 weeks post-lesion using the Y-maze, elevated plusmaze, light-dark box test and locomotor activity test. Our resultsshowed anxiety-like behavior at 2 and 3 weeks post-lesion, beforethe onset of motor impairment. We also observed working memoryimpairment in 6-OHDA rats after 3 weeks of neurodegeneration, without motor alterations. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed adecrease in tyrosine hydroxylase immunoreactivity in the substantianigra, ventral tegmental area, and striatum, indicating partial lesionof the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. Furthermore, we found anincrease in mRNA levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1
