his review will focus on photoaffinity labeling of MSH receptors on different pigmentcells, an approach which, over the last 9 years, has been pursued in the laboratories of theauthors. The review describes the different alpha-MSH photolabels so far investigated, thelabeling of MSH receptors on intact Xenopus melanophores, Anolis melanophores andCloudman S-91 mouse melanoma cells, and the identification of MSH receptors onB16 mouse melanoma cells. It also describes the use of reversible photolabels andbriefly mentions peptides carrying simultaneously one to three photolabels for tighthormone--receptor binding.
