Resumen:
Private supplementary tutoring has become an important part of the debate in higher education. In the U.S. it has been estimated that over one-third of students demand some sort of remedial or developmental courses (Bettinger, 2003), including private supplementary tutoring. In Latin America, private supplementary tutoring is an extended practice although little attention has yet received from researchers. In other parts of the world, most of the research done on private supplementary tutoring has concentrated on lower levels of education (Bray & Lykins, 2012) and little information exist for private tutoring and tertiary level learning. This presentation is intended to provide an opportunity to explore the contemporary issue of private supplementary tutoring in higher education in Latin America. The research is based on a study of several schools at the National University of Córdoba, in Argentina.
