Creative Writing, Orality and Translation Go Digital: Production of Expanded Bilingual Works of Art from Written Texts within a Social Commitment and Outreach Project in the English Majors at the National University of Cordoba, Argentina.

Historically, educational institutions have privileged forms of narration that are strongly rooted in orality and writing, while relegating other modes, such as visual, audiovisual or sound representation, to a role that was subsidiary to these two primary languages (Odetti, 2018, p. 5). However, nowadays and in sharp contrast to the superiority of orality and writing, technological ubiquity and the affordances inherent in Web 2.0 have a strong impact on the coexistence and interaction of diverse forms of communication, they offer more flexible and open possibilities of surfing and interacting with the available information (Gutierrez Martín, 2003), and they maximize the potential of artistic expression and creativity. The development of digital works of art from literary creation, in turn, requires the joint effort of apprentices, technicians and professionals from diverse disciplinary fields. A programme of academic commitment and outreach currently in operation at the National University of Cordoba allows for the ready availability of human resources from several fields of expertise, and it also fosters the interaction and joint work among faculty and students, members of the wider community and NGOs. In the context of this programme, the Social Commitment and Outreach project entitled Novel Authors (Nacimiento de Autores Noveles) brings together students majoring in English teaching and translating, expert linguists, professional and young amateur writers, music producers and composers and graphic designers. The main aim of this project is to produce digital literary works in the first language, Spanish, and in English. The bilingual literary works enriched by ICTs, available online as a quality open resource (Camilleri, Ehlers & Pawlowski, 2014; Bell, 2017) are conceived as the collaborative product of a ?project-based approach to artistic creation? that finds its historical background in disciplines such as architecture (Pagola, 2011, p. 13, emphasis in original). These works are a clear example of transdisciplinary efforts where digital resources and the humanities -in this case mostly literature, applied linguistics, sound design and music- converge. This paper will describe the processes involved in the development of bilingual artistic products, mostly produced in podcast and audiovisual formats, which stem from works written by adolescents and young people in the Writers? Club, a free creative writing workshop hosted by Believe (Asociacion Creer, a local non-profit organization based in Cordoba, Argentina). The linguistic and artistic processes that buttress the development of the bilingual works mostly entail technology-mediated pronunciation and voice coaching and online collaborative translation practices, and they take place within the broader framework of the Student Social Commitment and Outreach Project entitled Novel Authors of the School of Languages, National University of Cordoba. The focus will be placed mainly on the description of the effective intersection of digital and human resources inherent in the processes of linguistic accompaniment and artistic-creative development that culminate in the production of audiovisual material in Spanish and English available online [1] from works originally written in the mother tongue.References:Bell, Steven. ?Research Guides: Discovering Open Educational Resources (OER): Home?. guides.temple.edu.
