Título:
The Phonological, Prosodic and Paralinguistic Dimensions in Bringing a Literary Text to Life: University Student Commitment in the Emerging Artists Project
Reunión:
Congreso; III Jornadas Nacionales del Profesorado; 2022
Resumen:
With the ever-growing possibilities of digitisation, it is now possible to access countless audio, multimedia and video files where both artists themselves and their followers offer a personal aural or audiovisual rendition of a written work. The oral rendition of a literary piece will be further enhanced when the reader is well trained in the communicative potential and possibilities of the phonological, prosodic and paralinguistic features of a foreign language. Such is the case of some students from the School of Languages at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, who apply their phonetic and phonological knowledge and experience on the reading of original literary productions as members of a social commitment and outreach project entitled ?Emerging Artists?. This presentation will explore the process of giving voice to short literary pieces, with a focus on such a task as an invaluable opportunity for students training as future linguists to revisit and cement the key concepts and skills pertaining to pronunciation that they have acquired throughout the English major. It will also look into the dialogical and collaborative process of bringing a written text to life and constructing an integral artwork among writers, voice coaches, musicians and experts responsible for the graphic aspects.
