(2005) provided evidence that human and rat organic anion transporting polypeptides (human: OATP; rat: oatp), expressed in Xenopus laevis eggs as the model expression system, are capable of transporting dihydro-MC-LR. The most active transporters are expressed in human liver, but one of the human transporters (OATP1A2) is also expressed in the human blood–brain barrier. Thus, it was concluded that these transporters could mediate the uptake of MC-L
