This handout has been designed to help students develop academic speaking skills and strategies at an advanced level so as to achieve the oral competence needed to successfully take part in oral presentations, debates and discussions. Students will be provided with theoretical notions related to these three types of oral activities and also with practical activities and useful language that may serve a variety of functions. A series of stages have been designed in order to help students participate in such activities with enough preparation and self-confidence. We do hope that our students profit from this material as it is intended to help them not only become actively involved in speaking activities but also express their opinions in relation to a variety of insightful and controversial issues.
