Resumen:

Low-value,abundant and sustainable biomass materials for high-value energy storageapplication are important in vehicle electrification and for intermittentrenewable energy sources. Among next generation energy storage batteries, wecan find lithium sulfur, that has a high theoretical specific capacity and highenergy density. In the present work we propose the use of biocarbonsderived from pyrolysisof treated and untreated peanut shells (PS) as materials for lithium-sulfurcathodes. Different biocarbonswere obtained at low temperature pyrolysischanging the synthesis by acid or basic pre-treatment and the effect of thesein the physical characteristic, and in their performance as cathodes inlithium-sulfur batteries were studied. We found that the treatment changes thetype of porous generated and their electrochemical performance. The bestelectrode material was obtained from acid-treated peanut shells. This worksallows obtaining an efficient electrode giving great added values to bio-wastematerials.
