Resumen:
Nanomaterials for biomedical applications continuously lead researchers to design novel tools and strategies. Hybrid nanomaterials have recently been examined as promising platforms for therapeutic applications. This unique class of nanomaterials retains advantageous features of both the inorganic and organic components and provides the ability to tune the properties of the nanohybrid through the combination of functional components. This chapter summarizes recent advances in the design and biomedical applications of hybrid nanomaterials discussed fall into two main categories, organic-organic and organic-inorganic hybrids, including lipid-polymer-, clay-, carbon and metal/metal oxide-based nanohybryds. Their applications as nanotherapeutics for controlled drug release will be highlighted.
