Resumen:
The selective semi-hydrogenation of alkynes is a challenging task in organic synthesis, and also an important process in chemical industry. Metallic heterogeneous catalysts are used to carry out this reaction, highlighting the Pd catalysts since they provided the best performance. In the last years, the employment of nanoparticles (NPs) as catalysts brought a new perception of catalysis in terms activity, selectivity and sustainability. Recently, functionalized magnetic NPs have emerged as readily available, high surface-area and a robust heterogeneous catalyst support, and some magnetic NPs have been studied in the hydrogenation of alkynes. However, some complications arrive in terms of selectivity, because two reactions compete with this process: the over-hydrogenation and the isomerization of alkene. Besides this, there is an urgent need to develop less expensive catalysts. The preparation of bimetallic NPs, mixing other elements with precious metal, has been proven to be an effective method in making better use of the precious metal. Due to this, the development of new highly active, selective and inexpensive catalyst is an area of constant progress and evolution
