Resumen:
Heterocycles are widely present in pharmaceuticals and natural products and are also found in industrial chemistry as agrochemicals, colorants, plastics, etc. The development of greener methodologies leading to the desirable heterocyclic moiety is demanded to avoid the classical synthetic strategies where high temperatures, toxic solvents, transition metal catalysts, or extra ligands are used. In this way, organic transformations through photoinduced processes satisfy the need for more sustainable strategies. Nowadays, visible light is considered a clean reagent without residual waste. This book is focused on the application of light in different synthetic approaches for the construction of heterocycles. Notably, these light-driven transformations will describe intramolecular electron transfer reactions and the given examples will include the generation of new C-C or C-heteroatom bonds by photoinduced radical nucleophilic substitution, photoinduced homolytic aromatic substitution or photoredox catalysis.
