Abstract The link between language learning and culture can be explored from two perspectives. The learning of culture as content and aim for language programmes and culture as context for learning. Despite the fact that the learning of culture is of central importance, it is apparent that an approach to culture is not stressed actively on language learning programmes. If EFL learners are to become successful (inter) cultural communicators, it is important to provide them with systematic cultural training.
