Resumen:
In the current work, we present the experiences obtained in the project Academic Writing: Practices and Social Representations in Works by University Students (2006-2011) subsidized by the SECyT-UNC with the participation of several departments of the Facultad de Lenguas.A survey with 20 open-ended and close-ended items was conducted in order to collect the concept of reading and writing. The results of 383 students from 1st, 2nd and 5th years were collected into a database. Regarding the practical aspect, texts written in a classroom setting by these same students in response to reading of theory were analyzed. Among the results, we point out, in general terms, the lack of knowledge about the epistemic dimension of writing, which shows that the relationship between writing practices and teaching and learning theories are not being fully taken advantage of. There are no unique ways of writing but rather different writing cultures and practices, among which the academic-scientific ones are generated within institutions and are strengthened through didactic resources. Thus, programs of pedagogical-didactic intervention were carried out for the development of writing in different stages of the academic career. Furthermore, besides publications at an interinstitutional level, this project contributed to the incorporation of "writing policies in the university context" among the priorities within the group of linguistic policies of the Montevideo Group Association of Universities (AUGM). The goals of our work are sharing some of our reading and writing experiences that got positive outcomes, and sharing the research work, currently in progress, Argumentation in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Grammar and Discourse, in order to exchange ideas and obtain contributions for this project.
