Resumen:
If we agree that the foreign language teacher is a humanist, then EFL teachers need to make use of teaching-learning strategies and techniques that enable them to create the students? interest by awakening the need to express their feelings. If we encourage our students to use language meaningfully and creatively, they will engage in the activities much more deeply and, as a consequence, the teaching-learning process will be much more productive. In this paper, I will show that when the student feels that the main focus of the class is on her/his own personal growth and contribution, and does not merely lie on the degree of phonological, grammatical or lexical accuracy, she/he will feel empowered by the language as she/he will experience freedom of expression and appropriateness. It is in this context that teaching techniques such as reading aloud ready-made texts story-telling and drama become quite beneficial to exploit the phonological, grammatical and lexical components of the language.
