Resumen:
In this article, "The Contemporary Argentine Comics Community," a brief overview is given of the history of Argentine comics and the status of Argentine comics today.  Comics in Argentina were once a vital part of the general popular culture, but today they are a marginalized medium and exist only in the underground.  Artists, once famous for creating characters and stories with a distinctive Argentine flavor, are now working for American and European comics publishers.  The paper introduces some of the current artists and activities related to comics in Argentina and describes some of the more popular and successful titles.  This work describes the activities and associations as they exist throughout the country, outlining the areas of greatest activity to lesser activity.  These activities include comics conventions, comics production, and comics art schools.  The information was gathered through various interviews with artists, writers, editors, professors, and shop owners and my personal observations from reading and traveling.  This work serves as a foundation for future studies which will analyze the parallels between the marginalized state of contemporary comics and the process of global corporatization and the marginal status of disenfranchised nations in the sphere of global democracy.
