Firstly, we briefly discuss some theorical frameworks which try to explain why people spend on education, such as the human capital approach, the capabilities approach, and the signal model, and we also review the literature. Then, using secondary data from an income and expenditure survey, we estimate Tobit models. Dependent variable is household total expenditure on education, and the proportion of spending on education. Socio-demographic factors such as income, household composition (total members, income perceiving members and number of younger members), education climate, and household head occupation status and sex, and geographical region are taken as independent variables.
