Polarization of the BaO* chemiluminescence from the Ba(hyperthermal) + N2O - BaO* + N2 reaction: rotational alignment effects

Resumen:
A beam of excited Ba atoms, with kinetic energies in the range 0.5 - 0.7 eV, produced by laser ablation reacts with N20, in a gas-beam configuration. The reaction product is BaO(1S+). The analysis of the emission from this species shows that it corresponds to the transition A 1S+ ¬ X  1S+. The parallel and perpendicular components of the chemiluminescence was studied as a function of the laser fluence and shows a strong polarization. The results are analysed in terms of the kinetic energy and the electronic states of Ba.
