ntimicrobial resistance represents a significant global challenge that demands the development of innovative pharmaceutical strategies. Efavirenz, an antiviral drug, also exhibits antivirulence and antibiofilm effects on Staphylococcus aureus. However, efavirenz oral bioavailability is low and variable, limited by its poor aqueous solubility. In this study, the complexation of efavirenz with α-cyclodextrin and meglumine were investigated to identify an optimized delivery system. The characterization of the solids by thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction demonstrated the efficacy of the kneading method for the preparation of a multicomponent complex. Dissolution of efavirenz from the supramolecular powders into water containing 1 % sodium lauryl sulfate was measured by UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy.
