ackground:ThecontinuingemergenceofinfectionswithantifungalresistantCandidastrainsrequiresaconstantsearchfornewantifungaldrugs,withtheplantkingdombeinganimportantsourceofchemicalstructures.Purpose:Thepresentstudyinvestigatedtheantifungaleffectof2,4-dihydroxy-5-(1,1-dimethylallyl)-8-prenylpinocembrin(8PP,formerly6PP),anaturalprenylflavonoid,onCandidaalbicansbiofilms,andcomparedthiswithanazoleantifungal(fluconazole)bystudyingthecellularstressandantioxidantresponse.Studydesign/methods:Thefluconazolesensitive(SCa)andazole-resistant(RCa)C.albicansstrainswereused,withbiofilmformationbeingstudiedusingcrystalviolet(CV)andconfocalscanninglasermicroscopy(CSLM).Theminimalinhibitoryconcentrationforsessilecells(SMIC)wasdefinedastheconcentrationofantifungalthatcauseda50%(SMIC50)and80%(SMIC80)reductionoftreatedbiofilms.Thereactiveoxygenspecies(ROS)weredetectedbythereductionofnitrobluetetrazolium(NBT),andreactivenitrogenintermediates(RNI)weredeterminedbytheGriessassay.Theactivitiesofthesuperoxidedismu
