Resumen:
Autophagy is a key mechanism to degrade and recycle unwanted or damaged intracellular material during development and under stress conditions. Episodes of thermal and water stress will be increasingly frequent in the context of global climate change, thus affecting the growth, development and productivityof plants. The environmental stress conditions generate redox imbalances and oxidativestressin thecell. We arecurrently studying the regulation of the autophagic process du- ring the vegetative growth of Arabidopsis thalianaunder conditions of thermal and water stress. The autophagic mutants have alterationsin growth, which are accentuated understressconditions.Likewise, markers of autophagy in vivo and in vitro are clearly induced both by stress conditions and by ABA, a hormone related to them. The future objective of our work is to know theeffectof theseconditions and theregulation of autophagy during reproductive development, particularly seed quality by nitrogen content.
