Dynamics of the (3CT)[Ru(bipy)3]2+ relaxation and electron transfer processes under intense magnetic fields

p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; mso-layout-grid-align: none">Intense magnetic fields (1-5 T) accelerate the rate of relaxation of (3CT)Ru(bpy)32+. The change of the rate constant with field intensity is linear for fields less intense than 4T, a behavior inconsistent with an interaction mixing precursor and successor states. The rate constants of electron-transfer quenching of the excited state by CO(NH6)5Cl2+, Co(c2O4)33-  experience also field-induced changes which can be associated with variations in the value of the electronic coupling matrix element. The quenching by methylviologen, investigated by flash photolysis, has shown the presence of an intermediate in a microsecond time domain, and the quenching rate constant experienced a significant magne
