Título:
INVESTIGATION OF THE COCRYSTALLIZATION OF NITAZOXANIDE WITH GRAS COFORMERS. III: UREA
Reunión:
Congreso; 2° Reunion Internac. Cs. Farm.; 2012
Resumen:
Cocrystallization is a crystallization method that allows the binding of two or more building blocks within one periodic crystalline lattice without making or breaking covalent bonds. Pharmaceutical cocrystallization is a relatively recent technology, which offers an alternative platform in improving the physicochemical properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), such as the melting point, solubility, stability, and dissolution rate. Therefore, pharmaceutical cocrystals possess scientific and regulatory advantages along with intellectual property potential.1 The aim of this study was to prepare cocrystals of Nitazoxanide (NTZ) and urea, a GRAS coformer, using grinding and sonication cocrystallization methods. NTZ is a potent antiparasitic and antiviral agent that has low aqueous solubility, thereby the importance of obtaining cocrystals with improved aqueous solubility.
