COCRYSTAL ENGINEERING OF TIXOZANIDE AND ISONICOTINAMIDE BY GRINDING AND SONICATION IN THE SOLID STATE

Resumen:
Pharmaceutical cocrystals are multicomponent solid systems constituted by active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) neutral or ionizable, and a neutral coformer, which are combined by non-covalent interactions, generating a solid form with different physicochemical properties compared to the API and coformer. Therefore, cocrystallization offers the possibility of influencing the physical and chemical properties of APIs in order to favorably alter their biopharmaceutical parameters. The aim of the present study was to prepare cocrystals of tixozanide (TIZ), a potent antiprotozoal and antiviral agent of the thiazolide family that exhibits poor water solubility, with the purpose of improving its solubility. The selected coformer was isonicotinamide (ISO).
