Resumen:
his paper describes the two main channels of banking services in the state of Cordoba during 2000-2013. Whereas the number of branches reveals the deterioration in the availability of services, the indicators for ATMs exhibit an improvement. However, the expansion of ATMs was in localities with bank branches already installed. To settle a branch in towns of less than 10,000 inhabitants is not a profitable strategy for private Banks. The availability of banking services previously installed, the population, the employees and the retired persons are likely to provoke the settlement of a greater banking infrastructure. The increase in the population affected by current income deprivation would be associated with lower demand for banking services and this situation would generate fewer incentives to open a branch and/or ATMs. The elementary education seems to define a higher demand for branches.
