Statistical harmonization is an essential step to prepare the ground towards the union of the countries in a bloc. Consistency in economic statistics is a necessary condition to assess the potential benefitsfrom a coordinated action among countries. Harmonization also contributes to transparency through comprehensive monitoring of public administration by society, and the resulting uniform administrative and technical good practices. With that spirit in mind and the support of our authorities in the Ministries of Economy or Treasury and Central Banks, we have embarked on the project of creating a harmonized fiscal, monetary and balanceof payment statistical base for the MERCOSUR. Under these circumstances, we are pleased to publish this MERCOSUR Monetary, Credit and InterestRate Statistics Manual (2010 MERCOSUR MCIRSM).
