A comparative study of the electrodeposition of polypyrrole from protic and aprotic ionic liquids

In this work, the electropolymerization of pyrrole were carried out by applying a constant current in a protic ionic liquid: 1-ethyl-imidazolium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide and an aprotic ionic liquid: 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, containing 0.1 molL-1 of pyrrole. In order to understand if the species that participated in the charge balancing process is mainly the proton, cyclic voltammetry (CVs) of modified electrodes in both ionic liquids containing the same anion and different cations were performed. Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) data, combined with cyclic voltammetry were used to study the ionic exchange process in polypyrrole films prepared in both ionic liquids.
