Resumen:
The antimycotic and antibacterial activity of the essential oil of Senecio graveolens was studied against different intranosocomial special clinically isolated. Activity was found against diverse strains involved in candidiasis (C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. krusei and C. tropicalis), cryptococcosis (C. neoformans, aspergillosis (A. fumigatus and A. flavus), dermathosis (T. mentagrophytes), urinary infections and bacteriemia (E. coli, P. aeruginosa, P. mirabilis and S. saprophyticus coagulase negative). At concentrations betwee 0.1 and 1 mg/ml, a similar antimycotic activity was showed by the essential oil and miconazole. The apparently broad spectrum could indicate the potential usefulness of the essential oil as an antiseptic ordesinfectant agent.
