p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">The reactivity of 1,3-dihaloadamantanes with diphenylphosphide ions (PhzP-) in liquid ammonia was studied. 1,3-Dichloroadamantane (la), 1-hromo-3-chloroadamantane (lb) and 1,3-dibromoadamantane (lc) reacted with Ph2P- ions under photostimulation by the SRN1 mechanism. Irradiation of lc without Ph2P- ions gave no reaction ( < 5%). Three products were found: 1,3-his(diphenyphosphinyl)adamantane (2), (3-X-1-adamanty1)diphenylphosphine (X = CI, 3a; X = Br, 3h) and 1-damantyldiphenylphosphine (4).
