Resumen:
In this chapter we discuss how form affects the content of a word, , phrase or sentence in order to convey metaphorical meaning. The therm ´form´ refers to the grammatical structure of the language, that is to say, the set of rules that govern the configuration of sentences, phrases and words. For metaphorical meaning, we have analyzed Avril Lavigne´s songs and their metaphorical expressions as a representative voice of punk culture and new alternative femininity. In the first part of the chapter , we revise the current theoretical background to account for how different choices of words convey metaphorical meaning. We intend to demonstrate how the diverge from the conventional graphological representation of words can be used as source domains to create new metaphorical meanings and representations. We first discuss the notions of alphabetic writing and non-alphabetic writings and their relation with the iconic representation in writing. In the second part, we refer the spelling variation metaphor and its relation to the English language writing system. In this respect, we focus on the English spelling systems and its rules governing the ordering of graphemes and their relationship to spelling variation used by Lavigne and their metaphorical implications as noted in the spelling variation occurred in many of the words that conform her lyrics.
