p style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ; mso-layout-grid-align: none" class="MsoNormal">The self-discharge rates and discharge efficiency of thin nickel hydroxide films prepared by chemical precipitation on Pt and Ni substrates are determined in different electrolytes. Self-discharge rates are relatively high in non-pre-electrolyzed solutions due to the presence of iron impurities. These rates are lower in pre-electrolyzed solutions because iron impurities are partially eliminated by cathodic deposition. The discharge efficiency depends largely on the electrolyte nature, decreasing in the order KOH > NaOH > LiOH.
