This article  called ´Helena María Viramontes´ is part of the Dictionary of Literary Biography that lists the lives of twenty-first-century American novelists in its second series. In order to write this article one of the authors (Mirian Carballo Ph.D.) interviewed this Chicana novelist and together with the other author (Wanda Giles Ph.D.) gathered all the information written on her so far.  Besides the details on Helena María Viramontes´ life there are summaries, comments and reviews of the author´s works, The Moths and Othe Stories (1985), Under the Feet of Jesus (1995) and Their Dogs Came with Them (2007) that will be of use to any scholar interested in her life and work or for the curious layman. The inclusion of this author within this series was decided on the basis of the impact and significance of her work in the important  field of Chicano literature which has become so prominent within the American literary production.
