Resumen:
his is a study about the race question in the United States of America, specifically about the situation of African-Americans. Although there are many groups than could be object of analysis (Hargesheimer, 1991), it is impossible to analyse each group in depth. Hence, I have chosen to consider here that minority that symbolises the struggle and suffering of many people belonging to segregated groups: the Black Americans. The condition of Blacks is traced back to the times of colonisation, when they suffered subjugation and inhumane repression at the hands of the white majority. The study reaches 1964, because it was only three centuries after the first slaves were brought to the continent that the Blacks were able to achieve equal status with the whites. The question remains whether that equality means exactly that in reality.
