Resumen:
It is widely acknowledged that Systemic Linguistics brings forward four theoretical points about language. First, it is functional in terms of what it can do or what can be done with it. Second; it is semantic in that it is used to make meanings. Third, it is semiotic in that it is a process of making meanings by selecting from a set of options that constitute what can be meant. Fourth, it is contextual since the meanings generated and exchanged are influenced by their social and cultural contexts (Halliday 1994, Eggins 2004). A frequently observed phenomenon in English students? writing in the first courses at National University of Córdoba is the low degree of content evaluation and apparent lack of awareness of the importance of expressing a text producers? attitude towards what is being stated. We work on the notion that language is a social phenomenon used to communicate and interact in some context of situation and context of culture, and also that language is a symbol representing social realities that take place in the context of situation and context of culture. According to Halliday (1978, 1994) and Vygotsky (1986) as in Divya Kalia 2011: ? as learners come to realize the social arrangements of their environment, they develop reflexivity upon the rules of grammatical operation and text structures. Learners need to reflect on context and text, on how texts on contribute to context dynamics. Our aim is to throw light into the importance of bringing Systemic Linguistics into the text production classroom, highlighting the importance of providing students with the necessary tools in the art of making strategic choices from a wide range of potentialities within the sociocultural framework of the linguistic community the trainees intend to belong to.
