Resumen:
Spontaneously formed titanium oxide results in a thin passive film that provides corrosion protection to the underlying metal. When the oxide film is potentiodynamically formed, the main properties observed correspond to a semiconductor behaviour. These electrochemically formed oxides are being intensively studied for application in electrocatalysis. Currently, they are used as support material in fuel cells. In the present work, we have electrochemically and morphologically characterized different titanium dioxides growth onto two different titanium substrates: a thin film of titanium deposited on glass and a titanium sheet. The stabilized voltammograms were obtained in 0.01 M HClO4 at 25 C.The titanium oxide / electrolyte interface was examined to determine the changes observed in electrode surface roughness as a function of electrolyte nature and concentration. The same samples were analyzed by Scanning Electron (SEM) and Atomic Force microscopies (AFM). The results obtained by the electrochemical and the two microscopic methods were in good correlation.
