The article deals with the nature and role of the developmento of the skill of writing in EFL in the context of Argentine secondary schools. To this end, the relation between mother tongue and foreign language curricula, instructional practices and materials will be analyzed and possible ways of translating the potential benefit of this relation into the EFL class will be explores.
