Developing Intercomprehension in English, Dutch and German: A Methodological Model.

This paper provides a theoretical background to the workshop ?The art of reading in three Germanic languages?, in which we demonstrate multilingual reading comprehension activities on the basis of texts related to artistic expressions. Drawing on Constructivism, Contrastive Linguistics and the findings of research into L2 reading, a methodological model is proposed to guide the design of instructional materials for the simultaneous development of intercomprehension in English, German and Dutch.
