The country report on Argentina prepared for the PEGLOS Project (Planning for English as a Global Language) starts with some brief historical background and describes the current linguistic situation in Argentina, including the major languages spoken and the minority languages. Section 2 deals with the place of English in Argentina, while Section 3 characterizes the concept of "World English". In Section 4 a picture of public educational provision for English is offered and Section 5 discusses the recent changes in Foreign Language Teaching in Argentina. The report closes with changes coming ahead (Section 6) and an ennumeration of key issues in relation to English learning and use for the coming decade (Section 7).
