Our research group had studied the chemical composition and biological activity of the essencial oil of another species of this genus: Senecio graveolens, demonstrating that it has antimicrobial activity on highly pathogenic bacterial and fungal species. Senecio graveolens is also used in popular medicine with the same purpose as Senecio oreophyton. This reason and the lack of chemical and biological studies of the later stimulated us to initiate them in order to determine the essential oil chemical constituents and if it has similar biological activity. In the present work we report the chemical composition and comparison with the previously studied essential oil.
