Resumen:
This paper focuses on the analysis of the efficiency of national universities in Argentina by means of a methodological approach not frequently employed in the research field of higher education systems: a two-stage analysis. A DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model is combined with an estimation based on panel data from the levels of efficiency obtained in the first stage. In applying this methodology, available data for state-run universities for the period 2004-2013 was used. Results show a trend towards improvement in the relative efficiency levels of the system, but with specific cases of deterioration in the situation of recently created universities.
