Methodological foundations of comparative analysis in economics

The methodology of economics is an area of research that has traditionally received little attention. However, in the last twenty years or so, this situation has been changing. My objective in this essay is to show how methodology and, in particular, the approach systematised as Critical Realism, can help us to make the case for comparative analysis. Indeed I claim that Critical Realism offers an interesting point of departure and serves as a general guideline for pursuing comparative research in economics.
