A new polymorphic form of Ciprofloxacin saccharinate (CIP-SAC form II) was obtained in a single crystal form.
The product was characterized, and compared with our previously reported form I. To distinguish both polymorphic forms we used X-ray powder diffraction,
single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Infrared and Solid State NMR (13C-CPMAS). DSC/TGA showed that the reaction between precursors is complete
and the crystals are obtained with a high degree of purity. Both forms I and II are obtained as salts, as can be observed from the FTIR spectroscopy.
Powder X-ray diffraction and 13C CP-MAS allow distinguishing the two polymorphic forms. Single crystal X-ray diffraction of form II accounted for inter
and intra molecular interactions which could be extrapolated to form I.
