This handout is the second in a series of four handouts intended to be used in the English Language II course at the School of Languages, National University of Córdoba. It is based on previous versions designed and piloted in the courses we have taught. This material is organised into learning sessions which provide balanced practice in listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and speaking skills. Such practice is related to various topics included in the second unit of the current English Language II syllabus: Travelling and Holidays. The suggested activities apply the principles of collaborative learning and are based on the Communicative Language Teaching approach. We have tried to ensure that learners are provided with varied learning experiences, so that they can apply different learning strategies according to their own learning styles. We include explicit strategy instruction because we believe that this can help students become more successful and autonomous language learners. Thus, the main aims of the tasks included in this handout are to raise students? awareness of the learning process, to foster communicative language development, critical thinking, and strategic language learning; and to promote learners? continuing interest and involvement in the learning process.
