!--[if gte mso 9]> Our day and age has brought about an interestin voices that for years were silenced. These voices have of late been givencenter stage. Postcolonial drama is a key example. However, we know that theliterary translation of drama presents varied problems that are especiallycomplex to solve. This paper will explore the importance of preserving thecolloquial quality of postcolonial plays giving emphasis to dialectal,idiolectal, and lexical problems, and considering the areas of characterizationand consistency in the context of literatures where cultural equivalences maybe inexistent in the target language. Works ranging in origin from the AmericanHarlem Renaissance (such as Eugene O?Neill?s), to the 1970s in Africa (such asFemi Osofisan?s or Athol Fugard?s) and the Caribbean (such as Dere
