Preserving the Colloquial Quality in the Translation of Dramatic Texts

It is well-known that literary translation presents varied difficulties on different levels. However, the literary translation of dramatic texts presents additional problems that are hard to solve with the typical tools available to the literary translator. This workshop will explore the importance of preserving the colloquial quality of dramatic texts trying to tackle dialectal, idiolectal, and lexical problems, and paying special attention to the areas of characterization and consistency throughout a play.
