Resumen:
Chagas disease is one of the neglected tropical diseases, because, although the number of infected people in the world is increasing, no progress has been made in its treatment. Currently, the treatment of Chagas disease, based on the oral administration of Benznidazole carries a high rate of adverse effects. Transdermal drug administration reduces the dosage frequency and provides a controlled release of the medication into the patient, thus avoiding the occurrence of adverse effects. This work is focused on the synthesis and characterization of N-isopropylacrylamide/N,N-dimethylacrylamide hydrogels, and on the assessment of their capacity in vitro release of Bbenznidazole in view of a possible application in the transdermal treatment, of Chagas disease.
