Resumen:
The use of thermal neutrons (nth) in combination with compounds based on non-radioactive isotopes of boron has numerous advantages over treatments like chemotherapy, surgery or X-ray radiation for cancer therapy, since it?s able to deliver high radiation doses in a very short range thus destroying doped cells with minimum effect on healthy ones. The determination of the neutron fluence and dose delivered in a mixed radiation field is not simple but is essential for the design and planning of an oncological treatment. With the aim of measuring dose distribution in X-ray radiation therapy polymers have been proposed and used as dosimetric materials with great success, however there is still no polymeric material able to register directly nth in mixed fields. The main goal of this study was to develop a new and original material able to sense or detect thermal neutrons.
