Resumen:
n this paper we aim at presenting three translation competences, namely linguistic, cultural, and instrumental, in connection with a group of translation models and theories. Firstly, we will review Nida and Taber?s model; Nord?s functionalist model; the Polysystem Theory as applied to Translation Studies; and one theoretical construct lined up in the late post-hermeneutic paradigm. Arguing that such models and theories represent the general trend that TS have gone through over the 20th c. and the early years of the 21st, we will discuss the order of relevance of the abovementioned translation competences in each of them. Furthermore, references to Hurtado Albir and her PACTE group?s competence diagram are inescapable for it completes our ideas and has at large set the pace for TS reflection on this topic. Finally, we will propose three ?new? translation competences in view of the changes on the TS arena worldwide, i.e. digital, semiotic and academic competences. Such competences in t
