Resumen:
Julio Cortázar and Samanta Schweblin are two writers of Argentinean origin who for different reasons have set standards for the recognition of fantasy and neo-fantasy ? also, arguably called speculative writing ? in the local arena. In this session I will focus on a selection of their literary works and will apply the all-encompassing term of total translation and a wide range of translation types, including textual translation, metatextual translation, intra- and intertextual translation and extratextual translation, to the analysis of genre and writing variability. The objectives of this talk are: 1) finding and recognizing instances of the above mentioned translation types in Cortázar?s Bestiario and Schweblin?s Siete casas vacías; 2) classifying and defining translation problems in Cortázar and Schweblin?s notions about fantasy and neo-fantasy or speculative writing; 3) describing and arguing about the impact of translation problems, model translation and cultural translation in the formation of Argentina?s literary canon.
