Resumen:
This handout is an attempt to provide students of English Language II with additional material for Unit 2: Education. It contains a great variety of speaking, reading, listening and writing activities that will help students practice the four skills in an integrated way at the time they deal with the main subtopics related to Education. The handout is divided into seven main sections: Introduction, Primary and Secondary Education, Exams, Homeschooling, Higher Education, Technology and Education and Consolidation, so that students can learn about different aspects of education in an organised way. Each section has different learning tasks that will enable students to foster critical thinking, develop communicative skills, build up their vocabulary and practise certain grammatical structures. In addition, each section lists the main memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective and social learning strategies that will help students complete the tasks and learn to control and improve their own learning. Finally, this handout should be used as a complement to the textbook Upstream B2+ (2008) and the other materials currently used in the course. We hope that this handout can aid students in the process of language learning and development of the four skills.
