Resumen:
The present handout has been prepared for the purpose of providing English Language II students at the School of Languages with learning material for Unit 6: Crime and Punishment. Its main objective is to create a context in which students can practise their language skills in an integrated manner and to offer an opportunity to develop their communicative competence and improve their learning strategies. This handout contains reading activities and thought-provoking questions aimed at triggering discussions on different issues related to crime and punishment and developing the students? critical-thinking skills. The material also provides opportunities for students to work collaboratively in oral presentations, helping them develop their speaking and presentation skills and enlarge their cultural knowledge. Students will also find different listening and video watching activities that will help them enhance their listening competence. A varied array of exercises for language practice is also included to help students expand their vocabulary, improve their lexical competence and practise particular grammatical structures. Furthermore, the writing tasks have been carefully designed in order to help students cope with the process of writing both cause and effect and problem solution essays. All in all, we hope this material proves to be useful so that students can take advantage of these resources in order to enhance their competence as English language users and develop their autonomy as learners of English as a foreign language.
